Is Consulting a Free Online Fashion Designer Really Worth It?

The trend of consulting a free online fashion designer is slowly developing, and lots of people even claim that it can be quite a good experience. Whether you simply need to know what the hottest thing is this season and what you can opt for, or just need some quick advice on how to handle that favorite pair of jeans on verge of a catastrophic fashion disaster, online fashion designers can easily come to your rescue. But hey! Here is the catch- the deal is not exactly as simple as it sounds.

For one thing, it is important to note that in this world nothing really comes for free. Just pause and ask yourself for a moment that why would you give any free service at all? If you are not doing it for charity, then surely for some advertisement that could make a name for yourself in the market, right? So if you are looking for some detailed help, or do not want to make an elaborate and expensive purchase after your queries are solved, a good tip is to not bother about the free online services.

The next important thing to keep in mind that often these designers are only new to the field themselves and are not even trained well enough to be able to put across good suggestions. Thus again, do not search for their services if you are looking for something elaborate, since they may not be the best of the designers in fashion around.

However, if you are just looking for a fashion enthusiast, who has at least decent knowledge - if not very good, about trends and styles that suit you, and hoping to get a casual advice regarding some decisions you want to take, a free online fashion designer can be your trusted friend in need.

Men's Fashion - Style Advice and Tips

Although it would be nice if the first impression people took from us was our personality, the fact remains that our exteriors are, naturally, the first thing people consider when they look at us. This is not necessarily style-related; our wardrobes may be perceptions of what our bank accounts or personalities are. Even the smallest details of our dress send messages about ourselves that can be misinterpreted. Men tend to fall victim to this unfair scrutiny often as they tend to be unaware of the silent messages their ensembles are sending. We have provided some simple tips to help you avoid this situation and become more aware of the message you may be sending.

At one time, over-sized clothing was undoubtedly in style. However, that time has come and gone. Now, clothing that hangs on your frame and bags and sags is unattractive and presents an image of untidiness to people who see you. Choose clothing that is tailored to your frame without being too tight, and that provides comfort without being too baggy.

Often men also make another mistake, they do not think about their foot wear choices. It may seem easiest just to grab some tennis shoes out of the closet, but you have to think of what impression this is giving other people. It may not be comfortable for some men to wear anything but tennis shoes, but these men should make sure that their shoes are clean and not too worn.

A good hairstyle is also important to project and image of cleanliness and style. Find one that looks great and is easy to replicate by any stylist. You should have to spend a little extra the first time on a good haircut, but going to a professional, trusted stylist will be well worth the expense.

Try something new. Too often we get stuck in our "comfort zone" and then our style becomes stale. Try spicing things up once and a while, buy that electric blue shirt instead of the pale blue you normally would. Ask your friends, family members or coworkers for their style ideas. Resist that urge to go to the store and purchase the same clothes. Take those few moments and look at what is available, colors, textures, fit of the clothes, try something new.

The above suggestions are very easy, not to mention fun, to follow, but can drastically change your appearance for the better. Aside from your appearance, you may notice that your self-esteem and confidence has also developed from sporting a new hairstyle and wearing well-tailored clothing and clean shoes. These tips combined with your increased confidence will certainly be noticeable to others.

Mens Fashion Tips: The Art of Creating Permanent Fashion Styles for Men

Many men and women do not have much idea about Mens Fashion. Very often the advice I have been approached on are what men can wear to appear professional or what men should wear so that they do not look outdated but overtly trendy.

I would greatly suggest understanding the basics of men's fashion and put this knowledge into a permanent mens fashion style. There would not be anymore worry about following trends but perpetually looking stylish.

The basics of fashion for men boil down to knowing what each piece of apparel is made up of. The fabrics used determine a lot on the quality of the apparel. Good fabrics allow the apparel to withstand wear and tear.

If any men's clothing or accessories that wear out fast would naturally make it look old and badly cared. This does not reflect well of the men wearing it and easily put most men out of style just by looking shaggy.

The next important point we need to note are the details found in every apparel and accessories. Details can be subtle but it creates a very big impact in the eventual outlook of the styling.

So before we start playing with details, the knowledge of each detail's responsibility and how it helps in holding up the item or even gives significance to it in style can assist us in choosing the best men's clothing.

Learning how to coordinate is another tough thing for many men. It does not need to be if they just understand about the various concepts of coordination. Starting from differentiating the type skin complexion they belong to would be the most basic knowledge to acquire.

Then they just need to put on the right color clothing against their complexion that perks up their facial skin tone and brings the attention to their face.

After that, coordinating colors between the various men's clothing is another method. There are various ways to match different and similar or same hues as well as the shades of hues to achieve the nicest blend of colors.

If they are adventurous, then there are more that they can create that puts two very contrasting colors and yet a harmonious fusion of such colors without looking weird or clownish.

Putting patterns against each other is another challenging task in mens fashion. It is through the play of patterns that can make many men look very trendy and stylish.

If not properly done, those clashing patterns would be a very trying and poorly executed attempt. It boils down in knowing the types of patterns and their scale before choosing how to put them together.

Men can go for two to four similar or different patterns coordination without even looking overdoing the matching. It is fundamental to keep the flow of patterns as natural as possible and create a relaxing look from the combination.

It is good to have an idea of how to put all these mens clothing and accessories together. From there we can develop a permanent styling and never have to worry about the next trend or whether it is unprofessional. At least all aspects of men's fashion have been touched on. Therefore, if you are daring enough it is always possible to transform it into fashionable styling.

10 Fabulous Fashion Revival Tips - Simplicity of Recycling Old Clothes Back Into Fashion

In the fashion world of reality have you never noticed how latest trendy fashion designs what clothe boutique shop mannequins - duplicate creations designed decades ago. If your keen eye espied this, then does this not tell you something? Yes that's right, the clothes mum and granny wore in their hey-day could have you after a few minor alterations be the envy of all your friends. A rummage in the closet of the grey haired or blue rinse relative can save you time and money.

Revival of fashion rejuvenates from flower power hippie bell bottoms into flares. The bolero jacket turns box coat, and back on the scene with vengeance the pointed shoe once referred to as the "winkle picker," oh and not forgetting the square toed "chisel". I ask who is responsible for such unappealing names. Mind you back in the days of the Beatles the mention of winkle picker was so desirable it was like music to your ears. In reality chic trendy fashion items are not changing with the times - only the name.

Being fashionable is not about designer labels but the actual design of the outfit itself. The style layout is fashion and not the designer. Think about it, Versace and Gucci have been around for years so nothing fresh or new here, only what they create. The huge demand for fake designer labels is saving the fashion conscious a lot of money. Why pay through the nose for something you can not see or the person you wish to impress. Designer tags are sewn on the inside of most garments. Is there a reason for this? Could it be the shame of charging extortionate prices?

Save pennies today and salvage moms clothing donation for the local jumble sale. Bargain buys come in a multitude of choice from local charity shops and car boot sales. Some folk embarrass easily over wearing another`s cast offs (second hand) and this is understandable. If you can swallow your pride then a cycle wash with fabric softener will have the garment smelling fresh and looking like new leaving you with spare coppers in your pocket. Remember not all items for sale in second hand shops, are second hand.

Why not consider designing your own clothes and create a new image for yourself. Set your own trend/style. Fashion is determined by your way of thinking. If you think something is nice you wear it and vice versa. In saying that we have those regardless of how hideous they look in an outfit continues to strut the walk looking like a freak.

If you follow particular fashion behaviours then make sure they compliment "you" and your shape. If you choose to ignore this advice then be warned

Take heed of the fashion reminder "What goes around comes around" Remember moms' clothes were once chic and fashionable so why not again. Fashion is about attitude and if positive is in there somewhere, better still for recreating. If the golden oldies attire is not for you then try spice up other garments regardless of which person it belongs too.

1. Neck ties or any kind of neck adornment like scarves, chokers, boot laces and tastefully twisted rope can make a huge impact on how a plain dress/blouse looks. Dickie bows and cravats are fabulous finishing accessories.

2. Bring out the calling in colours - let them shout. Clash colours if you want to get noticed. Stripy shorts and polka dot tights (green red yellow) whatever your preference in colour will turn heads.

3. Use colourful ribbon to make a flash impression. Get it out of your head (excuse the pun) that ribbons are solely for the hair.

4. Tights and socks with funky inexpensive bits and bobs sewn on create an affective finish.

5. Liven up old belts with sequins, bows, studs, chains, rhinestone, pearls or beads

Anyone can revive their wardrobe by recycling their clothing.

1. A long skirt can be shortened. Short skirts can have layers added e.g. ra ra style, tassels or fringe.

2. Remove dress or blouse sleeves to create a sleeveless one. If a dress has pockets embroider with fancy stitching or sew on flower motifs.

3. Not familiar with a needle and cotton that's okay, you can purchase fusing and permanent glue products for many tasks.

4. Feathers are fabulous and fancy and glue easy.

5. Leave your mark on a pair of plain slacks by running a satin strip down the leg, waist or hem. Cheap inexpensive trims can add oomph, sparkle and elegance and can be obtained from craft and fabric stores.

If you can knit then take advantage of this trait and knit a shawl or woollies i.e. sweater or scarf and decorate with a brooch or other type decorative pin.

It is simple to accessorize with a brooch. The brooch can be pinned to one side of your neckline towards a sleeve or in the middle of your neckline highlighting the bust. Gather the material and attach the brooch to your bra strap. This creates a unique neckline and offers a wide range of possibilities for clothing items. Fashion magazines are a fine source for ideas. The finest craftsmen in the world who work on gems and Jewelry are Indian's, and look how they present themselves at the time of a tribal war dance.

Good fashion sense tells us not to go over our budget and that we don't want to wear the same outfit over and over, hence more reason to be able to create. It is best to find a look that best suits your personality. Not all trendy fashion designs are created for each individual, individually, so therefore you must feel comfortable before you can feel stylish.

Chic fashion designs come and go! Don't hold back on buying classic wardrobe accessories. As long as you have imagination they will never go out of style.

Image Consultant Advice for the Top 3 Style Mistakes New Yorkers Make

NEW YORK IMAGE CONSULTANT

Image consultant services can help New Yorkers avoid the three major style mistakes they make. The first mistake is failing to wear appropriate colors. The second mistake is wearing the wrong shoes. The third mistake is lack of style sense. All three mistakes are prevalent in the New York City area and mark people as less successful and less credible with the public.

MISTAKE NUMBER ONE

The first mistake New Yorkers make more than other people is generally being unaware of harmonious color combinations for clothes. Anyone living in New York has to be impressed by the wide range of colors they see on people passing in the street, in Times Square, and in Central Park. As a result, they may succumb to the idea that wearing trendy colors will make them look good. This is not necessarily so. In fact, this common misconception can have serious implications for an individual's credibility.

Research shows that while certain colors will work well in Manhattan business settings, other colors will work better in casual environments. If you wear colors that have not tested well in a New York business setting, such as blue, gray, and beige, you risk losing credibility, and you also risk failing to develop client rapport. Similarly, wearing analogous colors in a social setting can turn people off. (Analogous colors are close on the color wheel, such as beige and red, or blue and turquoise.) Such color combinations can hurt not only your social success but also your business success since a fair amount of business today is transacted in social settings. Research clearly demonstrates that navy blue paired with beige, for example, is appropriate for business in New York. Mixing analogous blue and green, however, fails to have a positive effect.

New Yorkers can learn from Michel-Eugène Chevreul's book, De la loi du contraste simultané des couleurs (1839) (English title: The Laws of Contrast of Colors), a classic that influenced the French Impressionists, including van Gogh, Signac, Seurat, and Monet. His conclusions can help New Yorkers overcome the unique trend toward a general laxity when it comes to color awareness. Chevreul pointed out that painters should be aware of the "modifications of tone and color which [figures] receive from contiguous colors" (70). In other words, colors that are next to each other influence one another. Cevreul goes on to point out that contiguous complementary colors (for example red and green) will make both colors more intense.

Chevreul's image consultant research can help New Yorkers overcome the first common mistake, failing to be aware of harmonious color combinations. One solution is to use Chevreul's theory of complementary color when choosing an outfit. When wearing a navy blue jacket, for example, match it with its complementary, such as a yellow tie. At the same time, avoid analogous colors in pants, such as pale blue, purple, plum, or pink. When wearing a beige jacket, match it with its complementary, a light blue shirt. At the same time, avoid analogous colors, like red or yellow pants.

MISTAKE NUMBER TWO

The second mistake New Yorkers tend to make more than those from other parts of the country is wearing the wrong footwear. Some styles are not going to be well received in the workplace. For example, sneakers are a poor choice because they are not perceived as professional, and yet many New Yorkers wear running shoes, especially when walking to work. Then they wear this inappropriate footwear as they enter the office. Sneakers do not test well in any white collar work environment.

One of the most common mistakes New York men make is wearing scuffed shoes or shoes of the wrong color. The only appropriate color shoes for men in New York City are black and brown. The wrong styles for men include shoes with white details, shoes that have large lasts (the underside of the shoe, which can stick out), and shoes made of inferior materials. (For example, a major brand recently had an entire batch of polyurethane soles that crumbled after a few months wear.) In New York City, the number of stores where men can find appropriate footwear can be counted on one hand, including Church's English Shoes, and John Lobb.

Unfortunately, some image consultants recommend shoes based on fashion rather than research. Salesmen in shoe stores generally know even less about what works well in a New York business environment; their main motivation is selling.

The easiest way to correct the second mistake New Yorkers make is to choose the best shoes you can afford. You may be assured that this strategy will succeed despite how expensive it may appear to be. If you choose better shoes, they will last longer and prove more economical over time. But whatever you do, keep in mind that the only acceptable colors for men's footwear in New York are black and brown. Women should also keep close to these darker shades, even when wearing lighter outfits.

MISTAKE NUMBER THREE

The third mistake New Yorkers make is failing to develop their style sense. Believe it or not, more people in the fashion capital of the world make this mistake every day than do those in other cities. Style sense does not mean being aware of the latest designs from DKNY or Versace. Instead, style sense refers to the ability to distinguish between effective and ineffective styles in clothing.

Effective clothing does two things. First, it conveys the subliminal message that the wearer is credible. New Yorkers want to be stylish, but they usually don't realize that certain colors and styles convey subliminal messages. Second, effective clothing makes the wearer fit in smoothly in a business setting and brings the individual added respect, power, and confidence. Your wardrobe can have a profound effect on how you are received in a New York professional setting.

For example, research demonstrates that a New York male attorney will have more credibility with a judge from ivy league law schools if the attorney avoids paisley ties. Other tie patterns will work better with such judges, including solids and polka dots. Similarly, there are certain tie patterns and suit colors that will work more effectively with blue collar clients, and other patterns and colors that will be more effective with white collar workers in Manhattan. Navy blue jackets are one of the most effective colors in New York when dealing with the middle and lower class; gray works well for the upper class client. Research also indicates that female attorneys in New York will run into problems when wearing pants suits if they are dealing with middle class men. Knowing what has tested well in New York is vital for attorneys and salesmen. Indeed, knowing these style secrets can be a key to greater business success in New York.

NEW YORK STYLE MISTAKES CORRECTED

The style mistakes we discussed above can be corrected, but doing so can often be a daunting task. Like a butler with inside knowledge, a trained image consultant can guide you to the most effective choices and help you gain respect, authority, and credibility in New York.

A Fashion Consultant Can Help You Love Your Body

Fashion is not just about wearing high-end designer clothing; it includes wearing garments that make an individual statement about your personality, lifestyle, and career objectives. A can help you integrate all aspects of your life in order to create a customized "look" that expresses your individuality.
A fashion consultant can assist you in making the right decisions about "what to wear" and "what not to wear." A consultation with a fashion expert will also guide you into making the right style choices when you are shopping. Individuals should dress for their particular body structure which ultimately makes all the difference in your overall appearance and a fashion consultant can help show you how.

Many people mask their feelings behind bad fashion. Unknowingly, people decide what to wear on a daily basis based on their current mood. Has there ever been a day when you are rushed or stressed out and don't feel like making an effort to get dressed? We are all guilty at one time or another. Somehow convincing ourselves that the easiest solution is grabbing a black top and bottom from our closet will take the guesswork out of what to wear. Maybe you are one those people who just have bad luck matching styles and colors but insist on being fashion forward. Instead of fashionably mixing garments, you end up making statements which always end in fashion disaster. Maybe you stayed out too late on a work night and compromised your work attire the next morning by wearing jeans and a t-shirt. In a professional or personal environment, your appearance should always project a positive image no matter what you emotions you are battling internally. With the help of a fashion consultant, you can express your outward appearance in an effective and positive way that is guaranteed to boost your confidence no matter what you may be feeling on a daily basis. Fashion is a form of self expression and can be liberating when expressed properly.

Color has significant psychological effects and communicates a strong statement to the people around you. Commercials, advertisements, interior decorators, photographers and magazine editors all use color to command attention or express a certain mood. Color can also be considered an important element in selecting a great garment. Certain body types should avoid specific colors. For example, if you are 5'3 you should avoid wearing contrasting tops and bottoms. Color can help your appearance by altering your shape and size. A Fashion Consultant will work with your body structure to figure out what colors will flatter you and which ones will fight with your figure. By using compassion, sensibility and practical advice, color can be applied to serve a multitude of issues. Wearing bright colors can have an alarming effect where as dark colors can be depressing. If you are giving a speech to a large group do you know what color wear to keep the attention of your audience on your words and not your outfit? If you have a job interview do you know what colors and styles will make you appear more professional and reliable? A fashion consultant can help explain the dynamics of color so that you can effectively integrate them into your everyday life and wardrobe.

When people use to be impulsive buyers, it was OK to be an emotional shopper. Sometimes shopping can be therapeutic. In today's economy, it is important to be economical and smart about your fashion expenditures. In a perfect world we can go to a high end boutique and shop till we drop! Economically speaking, this is clearly not practical shopping behavior. A fashion consultant understands the importance of a personal budget and can take you shopping in your own closet. By cleaning out your closet and purging garments that are unflattering and outdated, a fashion consultant is able to see what garments are left over to make-up your wardrobe. Usually, new outfits can be created or you can get recommendations about things you may need to complete specific looks. The most important thing is to maximize the investment you have already made in your wardrobe and stretch it out to get the most "bang for your buck."

Whether you need to establish an identity for work, social activates, vacation or a specific event, a fashion consultant is also your personal stylist. They can help you shine through all of life's circumstances. Sometimes our feelings or emotions can easily be manipulated by a little self confidence. Whether you are having a bad day or upset and angry over a situation, a compliment or kind words can seemingly go along way.

If you notice your nail polish is becoming too thick, do not despair. Try adding a few drops of acetone based polish remover into the bottle. Shake, and check the consistency. Continue to do this until it is useable again. You will extend the use of your polish, and save money in the process.

Wear clothes that flatter your body type. Just because something is in style does not mean that you should wear it. Every style was created with a certain body type in mind. For example, skinny jeans were not made to make people look skinny; they were made for people that already are thin.

A lot of people focus exclusively on clothes when they think of fashion. Hair can make or break any outfit that you wear. You need to invest in proper hair care products and put plenty of time into your hair style to get the look that perfectly complements your daily style.

Do not count on Hollywood to guide you in the right direction when it comes to fashion style. Due to competitive fashion, there are many mistakes made in an attempt to attract attention. So it to look to those around you for fashion tips so you do not stand too far out from the crowd.

Stand out by embracing your unique features. Some may see high cheekbones or birth marks as flaws, but highlighting what makes you the person you are will set you apart. People will remember you for that "flaw" and may even find you more attractive because of it. That cute little mole or dimples may be your selling point.

An early fashion tip for you: quilted fabrics are making a comeback and will be in style this fall. These fabrics are common in many types of clothing, including skirts, jackets, blouses, and blazers. While this fabric is meant to be worn a bit loose, do not go overboard; you will be appear to be bigger.

Save your old clothes. Trends and fashions go in cycles, so whatever you are wearing now is likely to have a comeback in ten years or more. Even if you do not think you would ever wear it again then, you might can swap clothes with someone looking for something vintage.

When you are looking for a new piece of clothing, think carefully about what you already have. Buying something that doesn't match what you have in your closet is how some people end up with a closet full of things they never wear. Make sure any new piece fits in with your overall wardrobe.

Make sure that you do not wear a jean top with jean bottoms. This is a trashy look that will get you noticed in the worst ways. If you are looking to be the king or queen of fashion, it is important that you never coordinate jeans with a jean top.

Always pay attention to upcoming events on your agenda. It could be a hot date, a friend's wedding, or a reunion. In order to have a great sense of confidence and look great, remember the suggestions from this piece. Looking great is not difficult at all.

New Season, New Start? Get Our Fashion Advice

As the relentless grey months seem to be passing and the bright blue sky making a more than welcome appearance, it can be tempting to think about blowing off the cobwebs and making a fresh start in time for spring. To help you on your way, we've compiled a review of winter fashion 2010/11 hits and misses and a preview of what's in store for the new season.

In tune with the more than usually icy climate in December, warm fur boots remained a firm favourite and long-laced biker boots make an appearance - a welcome alternative to high heels when it cam to trekking to work in sub-zero temperatures or standing in long snaking queues waiting for cancelled flights. 1950s schoolboy satchels made a comeback and are set to last well into the new season thanks to their versatility as gender neutral and large enough to carry your files and lunch without the need for a trolley! The so-called man-bag briefly set the fashion world against one another - trendy chic or last-year's fad? David Cameron's media man may have received mixed reviews but it looks like it's here to stay thanks to a number of celebrity and high-fashion outings for the man bag including James Long's fabulous collection at London fashion week.

The London Fashion Week was mired in controversy after Galliano's unexpected racist outburst but this didn't detract from the diverse high fashions on offer. From the dark, goth-like dresses of Craig Lawrence to the suave style of Alfred Dunhill, the week showed the panelled dress and fur to be this winter's winners.

Heading into spring, we can expect to see a lot more colour. Bright block primary colours are making a splash, particularly when it comes to accessories - check out MyWalit's range of rainbow purses, spot on trend! A bit of patriotic colour won't go amiss either, leading up to the royal wedding in April. Kate Middleton's style is certainly one to watch as well - check out her penchant for Australian hats. Harem trousers seem to be making an unfortunate comeback - perfect for those size zero models but less appealing for us mere mortals. Gypsy skirts are also a fashion to keep on top off - floaty, feminine and easy to pull off, no matter what your shape, this is one fashion that it's worth investing in. (No need to shave your legs too!)

For men, matching leather is the way to go - check out Kenneth Brownne's elegant range of leather accessories and gift sets, many matching in colour and style. Men's fashions are set to get increasingly casual but make sure you team this with elegant and well-chosen practical accessories like leather wallets and matching belts.

Fashion Advice - The "Right" Way to Wear a Pencil Skirt

When it comes to appropriate business casual womens clothing - pencil skirts are considered a classic. Whether it be during the cooler months or warm summer months, it's hard to go wrong with a slim fitting pencil skirt. Every woman should own at least once in a standard black color, however not all are created equal. You must consider a variety of things, from quality of fabric - to the shape of your body.

A pencil skirt is a versatile and flexible item of clothing. It can be easily converted from a piece you wear to the office to a skirt that can be worn for a night out on the town. Furthermore, a pencil skirt can be paired successfully with almost any type of top. Your first step to looking good in a pencil skirt is to choose the correct one for your body type. Fit and length are the two most important factors to consider when choosing a skirt. The next step is to choose a skirt of the right design and style. Light colors and interesting skirt accents are successful in highlights the derriere and hips. A pencil skirt with detailing at the bottom or the hem will draw the eye away from curves and make a women appear leaner. This type of skirt emphasizes curves to an extreme degree. If you are attempting to balance your top half with your bottom half, you may want to pair the skirt with a voluminous top or eye catching earrings or necklace. The next decision that you must make when pairing a blouse with a skirt is whether to wear the blouse tucked in or untucked.

If the pencil skirt you are wearing has a high waist or a thick waistband, then the shirt should be worn tucked in, as it complements the look better. Furthermore, tucking in a blouse will make your look appear more sophisticated, elongate your legs, and create a trimmer waistline. However, if tucking in the blouse shortens your torso, then you should wear your blouse untucked. Another popular look for pencil skirts this season is to pair them with a belt. This lends structure to an outfit, and it provides an interesting eye catching detail. If you wish to pair a belt with your skirt, opt for a skinny belt rather than a large belt. A woman should keep in mind that the lower the belt is placed, the shorter your legs will look. However, you should be careful to place the belt in such a manner that it does not chop your waist in half.

How to Style a Pashmina Shawl

Due to the sheer size of pashmina shawls, they have been adopted to fit a number of styles making them an extremely versatile accessory for any occasion, season or sex. How a pashmina is worn says a lot about the woman wearing it. According to Karen Homer in, Things a Woman Should Know about Style, (Prion 2003), "a pashmina knotted at the neck says city trader, a pashmina untidily wound round over a denim jacket says wannabe model." Over the last few years pashminas have become increasingly popular, with women's fashion experts coming up with never-ending new ways of wearing one to keep the look fresh and modern.

The Wrap

Perhaps the most elegant way to wear a pashmina and to show off its size and smooth texture is to drape it over your shoulders and fold round accordingly. This is style is perfect for the summer evenings when the temperature drops or even warm spring afternoons to protect your shoulders from the sun. On either occasion it will give your outfit that extra bit of style and panache.

The Neck - Scarf

You can either tie the pashmina in a noose style around your neck or let the full length of the fabric hang from your shoulders. For something a little more chic, give it a French twist by wrapping the hanging ends loosely around each other once and then looping them over each other again. Bring both ends to the back of the neck and tie. Keep the twist loose for extra style points.

The Stole

Wear it as an evening stole, draped loosely over the upper arms and then let the ends hang down from the underarm.

The Sarong

This style will ensure your beach look is carried off with a swagger, just make sure you keep the sand away from it!

The Head Scarf or Prayer Shawl

For something a little more exotic, try a Far Eastern/Middle Eastern look that Grace Kelly perfected so well, with her distinguished white pashmina. The epitome or elegance and femininity, place the pashmina over your head, covering your hair. With the folded edge facing you and, holding tight onto both ends, pull both under the chin. Cross the sides over one another and bring the ends around to the nape of the neck. Then fold the ends in a neat knot, either at the side of the throat or in front.

Audrey Hepburn Style

Audrey Hepburn's unique style, her personality and her fascinating biography are still in the focus of attention of thousands of people all over the world.

She was the style icon for generations, who had never thought she was beautiful, the professional ballet dancer who never performed a full ballet, the movie star who did not study acting...

No matter how controversial her life, career and style were, the world loved her for her being unique.

"I never thought I was pretty," said Audrey about herself. She felt too skinny, too tall and too flat. This did not prevent her from learning to value her looks. "You have to look at yourself objectively. Analyze yourself like an instrument. You have to be absolutely frank with yourself. Face your handicaps, don't try to hide them. Instead, develop something else." This was a sound advice she had given to her fans. She would decline the offer to cap her uneven front teeth, she would also refuse to pluck her heavy eyebrows.

By learning to make her beauty choices, Audrey Hepburn introduced a new standard of beauty to the world.

Because of her height, Audrey made flat shoes and ballet slippers an integral part of her look. However she did not to hide her being too skinny. Her look in "Sabrina" brought out by Givenchy, had become legendary. This look emphasized deliberately Audrey's slender figure. She looked gorgeous in Givenchy's simple lines and dominant blacks and whites.

The press release dated December 29, 1953, revealed her beauty secrets. Audrey did not use a shade of powder and preferred the pale shades of lipstick at all times. The star wore no furs, and almost no jewelry.

"Jewelry just doesn't suit me, and if I wear too much makeup, my face looks like a mask instead of me...Put me in furs and jewels, and I look like something off a barrel organ."

After her "Sabrina", Vogue and other fashion publications would record her every change of appearance.

As far as her image in fashion is concerned, Audrey Hepburn relied on Givenchy, as her most trustworthy guide.

"I depend on Givenchy in the same way that American women depend on their psychiatrists. There are few people I love more. He is the single person I know with the greatest integrity," said Audrey about her association with Givenchy.
Having said that, she underestimated her own role for the world famous designer.

Audrey Hepburn still remains beloved for her being truly unique, the actress with an aura of a princess.

Classic Pieces That Never Go Out of Style

Fashion always changes and it's very hard to keep up with it. You just bought a new pair of skinny jeans and the next thing you know, skinny jeans is out. That is the way with fashion and sometimes, we just end up going with the flow - or more like drowning in it.

So instead, try to go for classic pieces that never go out of style. These fashion pieces really give you the most bang for your buck and you could never go wrong with them. Classic Pieces You Must Have

The Little Black Dress

It has been said time and time again that the little black dress is something every girl should have. One can never go wrong with black and if you find a dress with a cut that suits your body type, then you know that it is a keeper. Black never goes out of style and the only thing that changes is the fabric. Stay with more neutral fabrics like satin or with a little bit of lace and try to keep away from velvet and other materials for they are seasonal and could easily be out of fashion. It is also easy to dress up or dress down a black dress. Wear a bright colored sweater or belt to add more fun to it or a nice sheer or soft shawl to add more drama and a little hint of romance.

The White Button Down Shirt

No matter the trend, white is a classic and a white button down shirt is a must-have. You can wear this casually with jeans or dress it up with tailored pants. You can choose to wear it over tank tops and keep it partially open. You can even wear a belt to cinch your waist and it would completely look modern and fun.

Black Skirt

You might think of black pencil skirts as boring but they really should be a staple in every girl's closet. The black pencil skirt, preferably knee-length, is one of the most important pieces of clothing that you must have particularly at work. You might think it's dull but paired with a nice fitting black blouse and killer heels, add a little dash of color like a skinny belt, and you will see that that outfit can always turn heads. Simple does not necessarily mean boring.

Black Slacks

Black slacks are your alternative to a black pencil skirt and are probably one of the most versatile pieces of clothing you can own. You can dress up black slacks on an evening out, you can wear it to work and you can even wear it to a funeral and it wouldn't look out of place. Just make sure that you pick a neutral fabric because materials like corduroy or linen are easily phased out and depends more on what's 'au currant'.

Classic pieces are practical for they are not dictated by fashion which tends to be very fleeting and always changing. You can never go wrong with these classic pieces and in fact, you can even consider them as fool-proof. If you want to experiment more, then try building your closet from these classic pieces.

4 Elements of the Fashionable Man

Look for these four elements in the men's fashion and you will turn heads when you enter a room, lift eyebrows in the interview process and land in the winner circle both personally and professionally.

1. Fresh and Fit

Men's fashions have changed considerably over the years. While jeans and khakis are a staple, the blue suit is a necessity and a few crisp white shirts the backbone of a fashionable man. You can update your wardrobe with a fine merino wool black turtleneck; a sharp detailed designer belt and new shoes. Attention to a few small details can lead a man of any age to a fresh new fashionable look. Purchase your trousers just a little loose at the waist; please do not try to buy the smallest size you can fit into. Do up your belt just a little looser, so that your trousers sit a little lower on the hip.

2. Fit and Fresh

A fit man looks far more fashionable then one who does not take care of himself. He exudes an aura of confidence and nonchalance, this man can get away with more fashion eccentricities in men's fashions then the man who is carrying an extra 25lbs or more. Fragrance can also be a clear men's fashion statement. The way that you smell can be dated pretty quickly. Fragrances go off, if you have had yours for more than a year. Dump it and buy new. Not in the budget this week? Go to the men's fragrance counter, chat up the guy or girl behind the counter and take home a few samples. Do this until you find the sent that is best for you and you have the budget to purchase or put it on your birthday/holiday list.

3. The Right locks.

Men's fashion hairstyle is another important element of personal style. Look through Hollywood movie star rags or websites and find a look that might work for your face, age and amount of hair remaining. Remember, bald is sexy; thinning long combed over hair is not! Try out one of the online programs that show men's fshion hairstyles and put in your picture to try out different styles and colours. Better yet, find a great barber or hairdresser and listen to his advice about hair length, colour and style that will best suit you and your career.

4. The Hand Shake

The very fashionable man has manicured nails (both hands and feet), and with the latest in facial grooming a clean-shaven or well kept beard. If you are going for the 5o'clock shadow, everything else must be impeccable, clean white shirt, untucked, designer jeans, the right length jacket, Italian leather shoes and a simple silver thumb ring. Men's fashion dictates that nails be short, clean and well cared for. Get a nail file and a buff, or if you can't get yourself to a manicurist take a look at websites that will give you direction and photos of how they should look.

Princess Diana Fashion and Style

Diana, Princess of Wales was born on July 1st, 1961 and died on 31st August, 1997. Princess Diana was an international style icon of the 1980s. Her looks and her life were the reflection of consistent work she did on herself as well as the development of her personality. As she matured, she became more attractive. She was indeed the most photographed woman in the whole world.

Things that she wore including her shoes, handbag, jewelry and hat were commented on. She had established a contemporary and appropriate style of royal dressing. Before, Princess Di's engagement, her dress style and make up style was not sophisticated. As a young England Kindergarten assistant, she wore clothes that suited her position and made her feel comfortable. After her engagement, things took a different turn and her image became traditional and very British. In the beginning, it was difficult for her to follow what kind of clothes she was expected to wear and was often criticized for her dressing style.

Slowly, she found her way into a new world of ceremonial costumes, occasion dressing, coordinated shoes, tiara, hats and handbags. She used to take advice and help from the deputy editor of Vogue and experiment with new designers. Her public life in the beginning was too coordinated and she even mentioned, "Clothes are not my priority." Having learnt to master the art of dressing, Diana became conscious of dressing. She wore bright and cheerful clothes whenever she visited children at the hospital. She felt that wearing such bright and cheerful colors had positive effect on the children. Over a period of five years, she wore those colorful clothes frequently to hospitals as she knew children loved those colors very much. What made Diana popular was her modern approach towards life. She had the ability to appear chic and cool even in the simplest attire.

Things began to change after her divorce as she became an independent woman. She added a different sense to her fashion style and started wearing designer clothes including Valentino, Versace, John Galliano, Lacroix and Ungaro. Her new image was that of a young and confident woman. Her sense of style was shining and everything about her dress sense and body language pointed to a self confident woman in total control of her life. Her use of color became subtle and her hairstyle changed to modern and sophisticated. Diana had a style, a star quality that was natural.

Style Tips for the Working Woman

For a working woman, some great style tips can help a lot for you to succeed in your job and in your whole career. It makes you stand out from the rest - makes it easier for the bosses to notice you when promotion time comes. Of course, this is assuming that you're doing your job well. Add to this society's expectation that women should always look good. Expressing yourself through your clothes at work should never be exclusive to fashion models, advertising executives, and other professionals in the art and creative fields. Having your own look gives you personal branding. However, you should also be able to know also how to execute this self-expression within the limits of whatever industry you're in.

Especially for the newbies, you should get to know what the standard attire in your line of work is. The best way to know this, although not infallible, is to see what the successful woman in your company is wearing. You can make her outfit as your measure. You can keep everything simple and safe for some time. But once you get a feel of your business environment, you can add an accessory here and there. Then you can make your way to introducing an article of clothing that's more your personal style.

You can never go wrong with suits and blazers, but they can look dull after some time. Especially on a nice summer or spring season, a great style advice is for you to wear a printed cotton shirt underneath, instead of the traditional blouse. Put on the blazer and keep it unbuttoned.

Jeans are now suitable for companies with a business casual air. But choose the indigo hues over distressed styles. Put on a nice blouse and belt to give you a polished look that's not so formal. You can opt for skinny jeans, but it would be best to wear them with long cardigans or a blazer for a good balance.

One of working women's biggest pitfalls is wearing too revealing outfits in the office. You can still be sexy, but still look smart. Especially these days when style trends are really gearing towards showing too much skin, women should be considerate when choosing work clothes. Determine your body's best asset and highlight it with your outfits. And, anyway, who could honestly say that wearing clothes that reveals too much skin is comfortable?

Donning an outfit that's stylish, professional-looking, and comfortable is definitely a tough act. But once you can get this done, it will give you that confidence and satisfaction at work.

Eyeglass Styles - Looking Great Regardless of Your Budget

Eyeglasses are used by many. While some may wear glasses for style, others wear them in order to correct certain problems in their eyes on doctor's advice. And just as there are different styles of eyeglasses available made of various materials, frames too come in a variety of shapes and sizes. You can choose from a wide range depending on what suits your eye-related issues and style.

Price range, too, is wide. There are the inexpensive or cheap glasses, medium priced glasses, as well as the expensive ones. You can choose the one you need depending on your budget. It is important to choose the right glasses that suit you. There is no point purchasing a pair of cheap eyeglasses just because they cost less, as it is important that they suit you and help in correcting your eye problem first and foremost. If not, you have to spend whatever you have to, as a wrong pair of glasses can even aggravate your problem.

Choosing Frames and Lenses

While frames play an important role it is the lens that has to be carefully chosen. Varying lens styles offer different levels of quality for different eyeglass prescription. High index lenses are popular as they are lighter and thinner in size. They are also sturdy, scratch resistant and long lasting as compared to the glass or plastic lenses. Even if they cost more, they benefit the user in the long run.

Similarly, you cannot buy glasses with thin lenses just because they are cheap for small children. They tend to be careless and it is mandatory to give them thicker polycarbonate eyeglasses. These are thin as well as resistant to impact. There is no point trying to look for cheap eyeglasses here. It is important to do a little bit of a research, keeping various factors in mind before choosing eyeglasses. It is not difficult to find one that is closest to your budget as well as of good quality.

As far as frames are concerned, a variety of them are available today. You can choose the shape, color and material according to your budget. Here you have a choice. If you are looking for cheap eyeglasses, you can go in for cheap frames. However, if you want to look good, it is better to go for a slightly better quality frame in the desired shape.

The shape of your face should be enhanced by choosing the right frame shape. And there are frames available today which are light in weight, strong as well as flexible.

With the variety of expensive as well as cheap eyeglasses available today, wearing glasses is no longer cumbersome or insulting. Wearing cool glasses has become part of today's fashion. In fact, there are people who just wear glasses because they are cool even if they do not have to.

Today's eyeglasses therefore are functional as well as stylish. They correct and add sophistication. You can even look for cheap eyeglasses that are good looking. You have to spend some time hunting for them.

Wear those cool, stylish glasses and make a fashion statement. Be it cheap eyeglasses or expensive ones, all you have to do is to wear them and walk around in style.

Loving How You Look: Finding Your Inner Beauty and Personal Style

Healing sometimes comes in the most unexpected packages!

As a certified holistic healing practitioner, working for over a decade in a number of healing modalities, I am used to witnessing and experiencing miracles. But I can still be surprised by how healing shows up or in what form.

Energy Profiling

Anyone familiar with energy healing techniques or alternative therapies has likely heard of Carol Tuttle. She has been working in the field of energy therapy for 20 years. Her relatively new system of energy profiling turns our attention to healing our relationships with our bodies, with our clothes, and ultimately, with our inner selves.

Do you know your energy profile type?

I recently discovered this system and immediately bought the online beauty profile course, the online course for dressing your truth, and Carol's book, It's Just My Nature. Within a week or so, I was beginning to heal the beliefs I had had nearly all my life about my body, what beauty is, what I should look like and what I should be wearing.

Dressing Your Truth

At first glance, this system may seem like just another "what's your season?," "learn your body shape," "dress 10 pounds thinner" kind of thing. But I knew almost from the beginning that it wouldn't be, because it really is based on nature.

Though we are all made of the same elements, we each have a dominant one, and when we know what that is, we can learn how to honor that element in the way that we dress. When we do that, living in integrity with who we really are, we will be beautiful! And we will know it.

Big promise, I know, but I dare you to try it because I am completely confident that once you do, you will agree.

The Fashion Industry is Wrong

We cannot all wear the same trendy fashions and all look beautiful. We can't even all wear the color black! So if we try to copy what we see on the runways or in the fashion magazines, we will fail to look as wonderful as we think they do and we are likely to decide that it's our fault. But that's not true.

We are not the ones who failed. The fashion industry has failed us.

So, instead of giving our power away to the fashion "experts", we need to take that power back and claim it for ourselves, becoming our own beauty and fashion expert. Who's with me?

Fashion and Beauty Magazines - The Secret Behind the Success of Modern Fashionistas

The fashion world has charmed its followers for the past more than 100 years. Women, especially, pine for latest clothes and accessories from leading fashion houses, like Gucci, Armani, D&G, Polo, Ralph Lauren, etc. And you may wonder how these fashionistas keep themselves abreast of the latest fashion trends? Well, the secret lies in fashion and beauty magazines, like Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Boca Life, and Pageantry.

Most women who crave for modern look and style subscribe to these magazines. The reason is not too far to seek once you read just a single issue from any of these magazines. The beauty secrets of rich and famous in the tinsel town are revealed with intricate details in these magazines - sometimes through designers and hairstylists, and sometimes, straight from the horse's mouth.

These magazines carry in depth analysis of the latest offerings from the leading fashion houses. You can easily compare the products on offer from different designer houses. Similarly, beauty magazines, like Step By Step Wire Jewelry, Hype Hair, and American Salon offer solutions, tips, and advices that you won't find anywhere else, from those who have been preaching and following these mantras with success for years. The subjects range from hair care, skin care, face care, body care, pedicure, manicure, face uplifts, advantages and disadvantages of botox, latest in jewelry, etc.

If there's one aspect that could keep you from subscribing to these fashion and beauty magazines, it's the high price of subscription. Since the demand for these magazines is pretty high, the publishers have tried to capitalize on this aspect and have priced the magazines on a higher side. However, you can avoid list price subscription available from your nearest magazine stand by logging on the Internet and looking for some reliable magazine subscription website.

Most websites offer heavy discounts on fashion and beauty magazines. Additionally, you are given a secure environment to pay for your subscription online. The order is immediately processed and your magazine arrives at your doorstep within days of placing the order.

However, before you place an order, make sure that you are dealing with an honest website. Generally, the level of honesty can be ensured by looking for signs that ensure integrity of your personal financial information that'll be transmitted through the website. In this regard, reliable websites have collaboration with trusted third parties, like 'GeoTrust', and you can check their label on the homepage.

A fashion merchandiser must know what consumers really want, how to present it to them, what they want to pay for it and how to lure them to purchase. A fashion merchandiser is not just an expert in fashion but must also have strong business, financial and advertising skills. As a fashion designer you might find yourself creating budgets, tracking profits and losses, tracking inventory, developing marketing strategies and even putting together creative visual displays to draw in consumers. It's a career that entails many different roles but also has many opportunities to grow and advance in.

3. Fashion Buyer

Fashion buyers are among the most crucial people for brands and companies. They must have good communication skills, be aggressive, organized and driven. As a fashion buyer you work hand in hand with designers, merchandisers and other key people to select what pieces to present to consumers and ensure that best-sellers are continually available. Buyers must be mindful of both current and future trends so they can make the right choices of clothing, shoes, accessories, etc. to ensure high profits. Working with suppliers to negotiate prices suggests that a fashion buyer must have good interpersonal skills, be educated in market costs and also in consumer demands. Fashion buyers must be ready to work under pressure, travel and research and analyze in order to make practical decisions on what products to offer their target customer base.

4. Fashion Director

Fashion directors, also known as creative directors or fashion coordinators, are in charge of the image and look of a store, magazine or a fashion house. They are accountable for that first impression given when people look at ad campaigns, shoots and even fashion films. A fashion director must make sure that the models, photographers, location and concepts characterize the store, brand, or magazine in the best and most genuine way. One of the most well known creative directors in the industry is Grace Coddington who, alongside Anna Wintour and other industry professionals, are a part of American Vogue. In the documentary "The September Issue" we are able to see Coddington showing us her best work and the steps she takes to produce the magnificent spreads in Vogue. Now, don't think it will be a snap landing one of these fashion jobs. Be prepared for long hours of work, creative stumps, frequent traveling, crazy deadlines, and being willing to go back to the drawing board time and time again. Remember, as a fashion director you are responsible for the image of a brand; you produce something that the whole world will see. People will base their opinions on what you present to them. As one of the top fashion jobs in the industry, the pressure is on!

Fashion Jobs - The List Goes On

5. Fashion Forecaster

Probably one of the highest ranking careers in the fashion industry, fashion forecasters do just that, forecast the future trends and styles. This is much more sophisticated than forecasting the weather. Not only does a fashion forecaster need to have in depth knowledge of fashion but he or she must also be creative and surely have the skills necessary to research and analyze potential trends, colors, fabrics and patterns. Fashion forecasters seek inspiration in everything from movies, music, even science and technology. Getting a position as a fashion forecaster is one of the most prestigious of all fashion jobs you could aspire to.

6. Fashion Stylist

A fashion stylist has the easy (or is it?) task of making someone look good. A stylist must be familiar with what colors, fabrics and styles work best to flatter someone's shape while also knowing ways to accessorize and finish the perfect outfit. Fashion stylists are responsible for picking the best pieces for photoshoots, events, etc. and putting them together for the final product. A stylist's reputation lies on how good the client looks and, in the case of ad campaigns, whether or not the stylist can communicate the image and vision of a product. Don't be surprised if, as a fashion stylist, you find yourself traveling for motivation or shopping for clothing, or even spending a day (or a few) revamping a client's closet. Finding fashion jobs for stylists can be as uncomplicated as working as a personal shopper or styling photo shoots for websites or local magazines or newspapers.

7. Fashion Photographer

It's not just about knowing just how to take a good picture. Fashion photographers basically have two fields to be good at: fashion and photography. The photography part consists of knowing what angles, lighting, etc. As far as the fashion, photographers really need to be experts in that as well. A fashion photographer should always know what the best trends are, top designers, top fashion events and any other heavy hitter aspects of the industry. Fashion jobs in this field can consist of taking pictures for model portfolios, ad campaigns, and fashion shows. Fashion photographers are responsible for producing a shot that requires excellent technical skills and extensive fashion knowledge. For example, when a fashion photographer goes to shoot at a fashion show he or she must know exactly when to snap the shot of that model wearing the flowing dress. The picture must showcase how the fabric moves and flows instead of displaying a dress that falls limp and drags on the floor. A fashion photographer works hand in hand with stylists, makeup artists and models to ensure that the final product is efficient in sending a visual message.

8. Fashion Editor

Fashion editors supervise the direction of a fashion publication, website and other media. They are in charge for editing a fashion writer's work, making suggestions, and researching the possibilities of future stories. Fashion writers must be aware of trends and classics to assure that coverage is provided for the target audience. A fashion editor works under the pressure of meeting deadlines, supervising writers, discovering features and fresh ideas all while staying current on the industry and scanning the levels of competition. Some of the qualities necessary for one of these fashion jobs are being organized, punctual, able to communicate verbally and have impeccable writing and journalistic skills. Being one of the most competitive fashion jobs in the industry, a fashion editor should be ready to put some hard work in and spend long nights brewing up excellent, creative content.

9. Fashion Writer

Being a fashion writer is not as easy as picking up a pen and paper (or laptop, tablet, etc.) but includes extensive amounts of research. Fashion writers must be current on their knowledge of fashion and creative when drumming up writing ideas. Of course, outstanding writing skills are a must and meeting deadlines are also fundamental in this career. Fashion writers can execute interviews, cover fashion events and supply reviews of products. You have a choice of working as a freelance writer, with television shows, websites, blogs, smaller publications like local magazines and newspapers or with major publications such as Vogue or Elle, among others. This is one of those fashion jobs where you can find many opportunities and can be fairly simple to get started.

10. Fashion PR (Fashion Public Relations)

Creating a good consumer opinion is of the utmost importance for this fashion job. Where advertising and marketing can create a consumer desire to purchase a certain fashion item, public relations handles the image in its relation to the public eye. Public opinion can gauge the success and longevity of a company. Out of all the fashion jobs mentioned, fashion pr is the piece that ties it all together.

Fashion Jobs that Require WORK!

Whatever one of these fashion jobs you determine to make your career, remember that in such a reasonably competitive industry it's important to put in a lot of hard work and to be determined. All employers look for something that make their next hire special and capable of making their publication, line, show, or website shine amongst the rest. What is it that you have to offer that others don't have? How motivated are you? Tell us, which one of these fashion jobs appeal to you the most?

How to Choose a Personal Stylist and Personal Shopper

Personal Styling is now a more recognised concept, in the advent of Trinny & Susannah advising us on What Not To Wear, Gok Wan teaching us How to Look Good Naked and 10 Years Younger. Although in the real world there are no 3D mirrors, glamorous photo shoots or invasive surgery, the general principle is the same - helping people to look and feel their absolute best.

However, who you choose to give you a Fashion Makeover is a big decision and therefore one you need to make carefully.

Whatever has prompted your search for a Personal Stylist (e.g. new mum struggling with her post baby figure and/or wardrobe, getting older but not sure how to evolve your look, wardrobe full but seemingly have nothing to wear etc.), you need to choose a Personal Stylist you can trust to achieve the best results for you.

There are three steps to selecting a personal stylist &/or personal shopper:

Step 1: Objective

Establish exactly what you're discontent with, what don't you like about your look/wardrobe/shopping habits? Why doesn't it work for you?

Step 2: Research

Compare the service offering and pricing and pull together a shortlist of Personal Stylists / Personal Shoppers in your local area.

Step 3: Enquiry

Engage with the Personal Stylists you're considering, to ensure the service is right for your needs but more so that the Personal Stylist is right for you.

As you go through this process there are a range of criteria to consider - there's probably more to think about than you may at first believe. In fact when I sat down to write this I didn't expect to have to divide the post into two parts to make it more easily digestible! However, I didn't want to miss anything out so that you can choose a personal stylist or personal shopper wisely.

Are they a good personality fit for you?

Be sure they are going to deliver a service in a manner that is right for you? Are they approachable, friendly, down-to-earth and passionate - ultimately you should enjoy your experience and feel totally at ease in the company of the Personal Stylist (rather than be intimidated by their knowledge and experience!) I'd recommend phoning a stylist to get a sense of whether they are a good fit for you. Talk through your needs - they should be able to advise you accordingly but also reassure you as to how they can help you.

Ultimately, it's a two way process - you are working together. It's not just the Personal Stylist doing their thing. Do you feel at ease talking to them? Are you able to communicate well? Judge them on their response to your requirements and situation.

Some stylists will have video on their site or on YouTube so you'll be able to get an idea for their personality from that. After all, you are going to be spending several hours together on something very personal so you want to be sure.

The best sessions feel like shopping with a friend - one who just happens to be able to help you with your personal style!

How experienced are they?

You are putting a lot of faith in this Personal Stylist & Personal Shopper for something that is very important to you - so do check how experienced they are. How many years have they been working in the personal styling? Have they had professional training - was it a vocational hands-on, practical course or just a correspondence course? Do they have a real aptitude for Personal Styling? Which brings me to my next point...

Do they look GREAT?

If you go to the hairdresser you look at their hair. If you are having a makeup lesson you check out the artist's own make up. The same applies with choosing a Personal Stylist & Personal Shopper. Do they look like the living embodiment of what they offer in a good or bad way?

Think about what you want to achieve in your session. For example, if you are interested in Colour Analysis are the photos on their website proof that they can mix and match colours well? Or are they just dressed in black or white? Similarly if you want to dress a challenging body shape flatteringly have they managed to achieve that with their own look? (Assuming they aren't a lucky blighter who doesn't need to!)

This doesn't mean that they have to be dressed in a look that matches your style - a skilled personal stylist and personal shopper who listens to their brief will be able to reflect a client's style personality - but they should look like they know a thing or two!

Don't be shy - if there's little evidence on the website (or just a head and shoulder's shot) then ask them to send you some photos of them in a range of outfits.

What is their approach?

There's a lot to take in whether you are considering a Personal Styling, Personal Shopping or Wardrobe Styling session so will the stylist's approach suit your style of learning? Will it be delivered in a manner that will ensure you follow and do what you have learnt? One way to check this is if you speak to them on the phone - when they talk through what will happen in your potential session was it easy to follow or did they use jargon that wasn't clear to you?

Are their services right for you?

Personal Stylists and Personal Shoppers offer an array of services from Colour Analysis and Style Analysis to Wardrobe Styling and Personal Shopping sessions of men and women. Do they offer the right package to suit you and your needs?

If you're busy do they offer a pre-shop service whereby they select items before you meet so you can have a one big try-on to kick off a shopping session? Or if you are on a budget do they let you pick and choose sessions or must you take a bundle of a half day or a day?

You may have a particular need such as work styling, new mum styling, wedding styling or teenage styling. Do they offer such tailored services that meet your needs?

Is the Price right?

An obvious one but does the price allow you to meet your objectives when you have factored in actually buying new clothes? Which leads me on to...

Can the Personal Stylist / Personal Shopper offer convenient appointment times?

If you work you may wish to take time off and make a special day of your personal styling or personal shopping experience. However, if you don't can they offer a session at a time that works for you - perhaps in the evening or at weekends?

Will they take you to the stores you like?

No doubt you'll have an idea in mind of where you want to shop - low to high end high street stores, designer boutiques and so on. Some stylists specialise in parts of the market and others are confident across the spectrum. You need to be comfortable that any Personal Shopper you choose is going to be able to match your budget and style.

If you are on a limited budget will they be happy taking you to H&M? Or at the higher end do they know their way around the top designers at Selfridges?

Check you are the only client!

You should never feel obliged to buy anything in a session - you are paying for a personal shopper's time and they should be independent. If they are being paid by anyone else you are not the only client - if they earn commission in the stores you visit you are not getting independent advice.

Does your (potential) Image Consultant offer a FREE, no obligation consultation?

Before booking your session, always ask for a consultation which should last for approx. 15 minutes, so that you can discuss your needs. Your Personal Stylist should not only show interest and empathy but demonstrate a clear understanding of your situation and ensure you book the best service to suit you and your budget.

Can they provide happy customer testimonials?

The real proof point of course is do they have happy customers. Quotes from named customers on the personal stylist and personal shopper's website will give you a certain confidence. You can always go a step further and ask if you can have a chat or drop an email to a former customer. A good stylist will have customers who are so enthusiastic about their service they'd be happy to talk.

Also you should ask any personal stylist and personal shopper whether they have had a customer with a similar need to you - you'll be able to tell from this response how well they can relate to you and ultimately help you.

Hopefully, that gives you a some pointers to finding a personal stylist and personal shopper who suits you and your needs. Not everyone will be right for you so it's important that you are comfortable with the person, are sure they 'get' you, are confident that they know their subject and can deliver a service that is right for you. If they tick all the boxes you will I believe make the right choice.
